It takes a special person to fit the boots of a volunteer firefighter. Someone with a desire to do something important for the community. Someone with courage and dedication, who isn't afraid of hard work, and is willing to accept the challenge of a difficult job. It takes a person who considers respect and appreciation reward enough. Someone who is just glad to help.

FVFR Volunteer opportunities exist for people with varying backgrounds--regardless of skill level, gender or physical ability.
If you are at least 18 years of age, and can pass a DMV and Background check, here are some of the volunteer opportunities that might be right for you:
| Firefighter |
If you are seeking a physically challenging opportunity you will find the Firefighter role to be your personal challenge. This position can be quite demanding. Volunteers wishing to pursue this challenge will be required to respond to traffic accidents, structure fires, rescue operations and hazmat incidents. Training is provided. We also have the wildland firefighter position which requires response to grass fires, wildland incidents, protection of rural communities and assisting other mutual aid agencies.

| 1st Responder/EMT positions |
If you are interested in life saving operations of the medical nature, you will find the 1st Responder/EMT positions very rewarding. Our medical operations dictate approximately 75% of our calls which establish initial Basic Life Support care to patients. Having a patient stabilized before Advanced Life Support arrives is critical for patient health considerations.
|
| Active and Support roles |
Active and support roles are needed on all incidents and required by all volunteers per availability. The challenge of assisting with auto extrications, Flight for Life, firefighting and medical operations is quite rewarding. Working with local law enforcement, national and state forest service and other mutual aid agencies has its own reward.
|
| FVFR Auxiliary |
FVFR Auxiliary department offers a challenging support role as well. Supporting FVFR is their primary function. Additionally, they have a great involvement in the community. Many annual fundraisers help support additional financial aid to both departments.
