FIREWISE INFORMATION
-
Give emergency vehicles the "right of way" at all times.
-
Pay attention to and obey announcements about area fire conditions.
-
Wood stove and fire place ashes can remain hot and cause fires up to one week. Place ashes in metal containers and ensure they are completely extinguished and cold before discarding.
-
Store firewood away from your home.
-
Mitigate your property: Do not store combustible materials under decks or next to structures. Keep grasses, shrubs and other landscaping materials from growing next to your house. Thin trees around your home so they are 30 feet from the structure. Cut tree branches up to 15 feet above the ground to reduce the risk of "torching."
-
Remember you must obtain a "Burn Permit" from the Teller County Sheriff in order to burn any materials on your property. Call (719) 687-9652 for information about permits. You are required to follow all Burn Permit instructions.
-
Ensure address numbers for your home are clearly marked on your home and visible at the entrance to your driveway/property.
-
Keep debris at least 25 feet from your structure and keep driveways clear for emergency vehicle use. |
